My Mission & Ethics Statement:
At the end of the day, I'm just a free-spirited redhead trying to make a difference in this world. Thank you for taking the time to look and listen to the important stories I capture through my lens and my pens.
As a first-generation graduate and a Cherokee journalist, my ethics are driven by a humanist approach focusing on the idea that all people can teach a lesson to someone else and that each voice deserves to be heard; this goes especially for marginalized communities, both the ones I come from and the communities I know nothing about; as a journalist I will strive to always reach a higher level of understanding from all walks of life through upholding the same unbiased accountability towards all in my disciplined profession as a truth-seeker for all people. |
The lesson of history is that no one learns." |
Scholarly conversations about race, media
Because of my extensive coverage in Indigenous affairs topics and my knowledge of Indigenous communities and American Indian media history, I was approached by the Institute of PR to speak at this panel for their Race in the Classroom PR-series. The discussion surrounded topics of race, diversity and inclusion, including how we as a PR- and media- based industry can amplify the voices of the Indigenous journalists and media scholars in a climate where the public perceptions are being increasingly warped by hate and misinformation.
